Dunn Edwards Paints receives the ‘Operational Excellence’ award for its control/command system designed and built by Centris Technologies. The award, given out by Manufacturing Executive, honors companies and individuals that pioneer the future of manufacturing processes.  The system designed by Centris, in operation at Dunn Edwards since mid-2011, received an award in the ‘Operational Excellence’ category.

Winners in this category undertook projects that fundamentally changed production systems and processes, with particular emphasis on cost reduction and increases in flexibility.  Winning projects, for example, will have made use of principe d’amélioration continue, such as the ‘lean’ approach for production optimization, or have implanted new systems that raise overall efficiency and traceability.

The control/command system for Dunn Edwards was designed, built and deployed by Centris Technologies. The system took close to 2 years for complete deployment and installation, requiring over 20,000 hours of work.

The system is composed of 6 APC controllers developed by Centris.  These industrial controllers communicate with more than 6,000 I/Os in real-time by way of a TCP/IP network.

A pair of SCADA (PCVue) servers, 14 tactile operator stations, 9 giant screens and mobility access for production reports are also part of the final deliverable.  Also, the main SCADA communicates more than 50,000 distinct data packets through a SAP system for recipe management, production reports, inventory and maintenance requirements.

For more information on this system, please click here, and visit the Dunn Edwards website at: www.dunnedwards.com.

Centris Technologies has provided more than 100,000 hours of consultation in several vertical markets.
